Strawberry Equivalents: 1 quart weighs 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 pounds. 1 quart yields 4-5 servings. 1 1/2 quarts are needed for one 9-inch pie. 1 cup sliced fresh berries = 10 oz package of frozen sweetened berries.
Storing Your Strawberries **Before storing or processing, sort berries; use the ripest ones first. **Refrigerate berries in loosely covered containers. Ideal temperatures are just above freezing, 34-38 degrees. **Don’t wash the berries until they are ready to be used. **Use as soon as possible.
Freezing Berries All berries can be prepare with or without sugar or syrup; be chopped, sliced, mashed or pureed. For freezing they should be packed in an air tight container, leaving 1-inch of head space. They are best if used within one year.
