It all began in 1977 when Doug Hazeltine suggested to his wife, "Perhaps we should grow strawberries... let's start with 5 acres!"

Thus, a strawberry patch in Edgerton, at the residence of the Hazeltines was the first to be planted, in 1977.  This second farm, near Janesville, has been in the Hazeltine family for over 100 years; strawberries were planted there in 1984.

The 2002 season is the first year that strawberries will only be available at the Janesville location, offering approximately 12 acres of berries.  Doug & Sue Hazeltine made the difficult decision to close the strawberry patch  at their own residence after the 2001 season, after 25 years of offering strawberries there. They apologize for this inconvenience to their loyal customers over the years who have visited the Edgerton farm.  The Hazeltines will now concentrate their efforts and resources at one great location, the Janesville farm.

Over the years the Hazeltines have experimented with a variety of fruits and vegetables, concluding that strawberries are their best selling fruits in their community.  They decided to limit their variety to focus their efforts on the strawberries; the result is the fabulous patch of delicious red strawberries available to you every June.

Since 1996, Hazeltines have storage and mini-storage units available for rent..  The storage units are located at their residence in Edgerton.  You can contact the Hazeltines for more information regarding storage at 608/ 884-8992 or click here for a link to the storage page on this site.

A Photo History

One of the biggest projects in preparing the land for strawberry business was installing underground water pipes and hydrants throughout the acreage for a complete irrigation system.  Pictured here is one of three underground lines.

Originally Doug's father Raymond Hazeltine painted the signs for the strawberry business.  Ray was a professional sign painter with the logo "Another Sign By Hazeltine".  Now Doug spends time in the winter months painting his own signs.

Although currently not delivering wholesale berries to stores, over the years the Hazeltines' berries have been marketed in various stores and markets in the southern Wisconsin area.

A farmer by trade and by passion, Doug Hazeltine especially enjoys the farming aspects of the strawberry venture.
